Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from his teammate by one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to escape with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill corner approaching the final bend on to the pit straight.
The veteran finished practice in P19, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
