Exploring an Unusual Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Poop on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have discovered plenty of entertaining indie games. But, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer lets you play a character that is actually a turd trying to navigate to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

The gameplay is simple: you only need a single jump button. Throughout numerous levels, battle boss fights and access a shop to purchase outfits for your fecal avatar.

Execute your actions carefully, as a wrong move forces restarting the level. Leap on floating orbs to propel the poop higher, traverse disappearing surfaces, and activate buttons to reveal new areas. Earn coins for buying more difficult levels as gameplay gets crazy.

In terms of design, the experience boasts neon stages and an amazing background music. The retro art with shifting basic polygons may remind gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.

Even though difficult to think of similar titles where you play as a piece of feces, interactive entertainment often featured toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, you can create explosives from protagonist droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, fecal references shows up a lot in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Despite its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already earned impressive awards, like winning at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is ready at present on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to arrive on Steam on November 19.
