Djokovic Issues Caution to Jannik Sinner: Doping Ban Will Follow Him Like a "Cloud"
Novak Djokovic has cautioned Jannik Sinner that his three-month ban for doping will persist over his career as a constant shadow – while also questioning the timing of the penalty last year.
The Ban Explained
The Italian player served a three-month suspension in early 2025 after the World Anti-Doping Agency approved his account that a banned anabolic steroid, clostebol, had been ingested unintentionally.
"That cloud will follow him just as the Covid controversy will follow me, for the rest of his, or my career," the champion remarked in a discussion on Piers Morgan: Uncensored.
"It is a situation where, it was so major, and when that happens, over time it will fade, but I don't think it will disappear. There will inevitably exist a certain group of people that will continually reference the incident."
The Champion's Viewpoint
The Serbian player stated that Sinner, his frequent training companion, "didn't do it on purpose", but he proceeded to question how the player arranged to serve his time without sitting out any major tournaments.
"There is the lack of transparency, the inconsistency, the convenient timing of the suspension coming between the slams, so he avoids skipping important competitions – it's just it was very, very odd," he further commented.

"I really don't like how the situation was managed and you could hear so many other players, across both tours, who had some similar situations coming out in the media and complaining that it was a preferable treatment."
